So you’re thinking about hiring an interior designer? but maybe you don’t need all the bells and whistles that they come with. That’s understandable, why get extra services if you don’t necessarily need them? Wouldn’t we just want more of that money to go to our project? OF COURSE. That’s why I’m here to tell you how you can save money when hiring an interior designer. These are services you could consider doing yourself that I think are manageable for anyone. But of course, sometimes it’s just nice to have it all handled because we all have busy lives. Good news is! I have a solution for you at the end. But first, let’s chat about the 5 ways.
It helps to know what you like. Take the time to define your style and create a pinterest board of interiors you admire. Snap pictures of the existing furniture you like in your home or if you don’t have any, try and single out a few pieces that inspire you online. This will give a designer a jumping off point to collect more pieces you will love. Who wants to see something they won’t like and waste time and money
We all love a custom space, but that means more money. Consider ready to ship items/ pre-made that already have the vibe you’re looking for. It might take some hunting around but it will save you!
Yes, Interior designers can get better discounts and most of us offer a slice to our clients or they markup, so I say, make the purchases if you can. It will also cut costs on the scope of work that the interior designer will have to manage.
Speaking of managing, tell your interior designer you would prefer to handle your own project. If you feel confident to do so, you will be working directly with the contractor and overseeing the work done. If your designer has given you the floor plan and elevation drawings, your contractor, plumber etc. Should be able to take it from there. For any reason you need help, I’m sure your designer will be able to step in and guide you.
Put it together! With guidance from your designer, you should be able to decorate and pull it together yourself. Might need to carve out some time but at least you get that control over placement so you can truly feel like you’ve contributed to your own space.
So those are 5 ways you can save money when working with an interior designer. Consider doing all 5 or maybe just choose the 1 you think you can handle. If you have an interior designer you trust, they should always be available to help you.
